How to Apply for the BRN License Verification

Following and complying with the previous requirements is a must, yet there are certain steps you need to take if you want your application to be sent and completely reviewed by the admission committee.

Here’s the process you should follow:

Prepare Yourself

It is not a secret that to become a licensed professional you must hold a certain level of knowledge and be able to perform in a certain field professionally. For this, you need to prepare and study.
The minimum recommended preparations to obtain a BRN license are:

  • A high-school diploma in Sciences with at least 4 years in Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Computer Sciences.
  • At least 4 years of Math studies alongside Algebra and Geometry.
  • English proficiency, at least 4 years of study or similar.
  • At least 3 years of Social studies.
  • At least 2 years of one or two foreign languages.

Different courses and colleges ask for different requirements. Yet, these are the most common. At this moment, you need to look for a college program that offers exactly what you want depending on the type of nursing program that goes better with you. Select the program, apply and finish it in order to be able to apply for the license.

Remember that certain verifications demand the nurse to have at least 2 years of experience in the field. Sometimes it may be more.

Send Your Application

After having your nursing preparation finished, you will receive your nursing licensure, a license you will need to verify. To do this, you will have to find the “Application for Licensure by Examination”, complete the form and send it to the CA Board of Registered Nursing in order to file your application.

This application is made online, it is recommended to do it 6 weeks or more before graduation to avoid problems later. Make sure you comply with other requirements like the fingerprint check and the payment of fees.

Application Review

After sending your BRN application, you will need to wait for the board to verify you. After verification, there are three possible outcomes: Eligibility, Deficiency or Non-Eligibility. If you are eligible but don’t meet all the grade requirements correctly, you will be put into a “Deficiency” state, where you will have to fix certain things on your profile to be eligible. If you don’t meet any of the requirements, you are put into Non-Eligibility, and there’s nothing you can do than to wait the required time to apply later. Otherwise, you will be eligible to receive your license verification and to take the NCLEX-RN exam.

Take the NCLEX Exam

If you are eligible, you will be asked to receive your license; you will have to pass an exam. This exam takes 6 continuous days and it is computerized for more convenience. Most of these exams are made online but you may have to attend a certain institution to take it.

Pass the Exam

After passing the exam with a good score, you will soon receive your BRN license so you can start practicing as a nurse without a problem. It is always recommended to apply for the license before you graduate as it gives you the opportunity to achieve a higher score. The exam is about theory and practice, so it is important to have good and fresh knowledge.

Receive Your License Verification

Finishing your online RN license verification is totally easy, as said before. Follow each of these steps and you will receive your license without a problem. By receiving your nursing licensure, you are immediately able to start working that’s why it is recommended to apply for an Interim Permit immediately after receiving your license, so you can start working as a beginner nurse.

Tips on How to Apply Effectively

Even though following the previous steps and making sure you comply with all the necessary requirements may be enough, you may find very helpful the following tips to make the process easier and more effective:

  • Make sure you have all the proper requirements checked before sending your application. From documents for preparation and overall experience according to the type of verification you need.
